About

TerraForge 2 is a procedural terrain generator for Unity that eliminates the complexity of traditional terrain tools. Using advanced noise algorithms based on FastNoiseLite, it generates natural-looking landscapes directly in the editor and at runtime, without relying on pre-made stamps or manual sculpting.

Core Terrain Generation

The foundation of TerraForge 2 is entirely procedural. Every terrain is generated from algorithmic noise patterns that create unique, highly detailed landscapes. Rather than assembling pre-built pieces, you control the fundamental parameters that shape the terrain itself.

  • FastNoiseLite Noise Engine — Advanced noise algorithms generate infinitely varied terrain with full customization of noise characteristics and layering
  • Procedural Without Stamps — No reliance on pre-made terrain tiles or manual sculpting; everything is generated algorithmically
  • Editor and Runtime Generation — Generate terrains while working in the editor, or procedurally generate them dynamically during gameplay

Hydraulic Erosion

Procedurally generated terrain can look artificial. TerraForge 2's erosion system changes that by simulating natural weathering processes. The system models rainfall and river flow, carving realistic valleys, drainage patterns, and natural features into your terrain.

  • Natural Process Simulation — Simulates rainfall and water flow to create realistic erosion patterns
  • Organic Landform Creation — Water carved valleys, natural river systems, and realistic drainage patterns emerge automatically
  • Visual Authenticity — Terrain looks naturally aged and weathered rather than procedurally generated

Terrain Groups & Biomes

Build interconnected worlds by generating multiple terrains as a single unit. Each terrain in the group can have its own biome settings for environmental variety.

  • Multi-Terrain Systems — Connect multiple terrain tiles into seamless large-scale worlds
  • Independent Biome Configuration — Each terrain in a group maintains its own unique biome characteristics and visual style
  • Seamless Integration — Terrain groups automatically blend together for cohesive open worlds

GPU-Accelerated Terrain Painter

Fine-tune your procedurally generated terrain with real-time painting. The GPU-accelerated painter provides instant visual feedback as you modify terrain layers and details.

  • Real-Time Feedback — See changes instantly as you paint, without waiting for baking or processing
  • Hardware Acceleration — GPU-powered painting for smooth, responsive interaction
  • Interactive Parameter Control — Adjust terrain properties while seeing results immediately

Rendering Pipeline Support

TerraForge 2 works with all modern Unity rendering pipelines:

  • Universal Render Pipeline (URP) — For mobile, web, and console platforms
  • High Definition Render Pipeline (HDRP) — For high-quality, visually advanced projects
  • Standard Pipeline — Full compatibility across all rendering approaches

Runtime Scripting API

Control terrain generation and modification programmatically through C# scripting. Generate terrains on-demand during gameplay, dynamically customize environments, and integrate procedural terrain with your game systems.

  • Programmatic Control — Generate and modify terrain through code
  • Dynamic Customization — Adjust terrain parameters and generation at runtime
  • Gameplay Integration — Automate terrain generation as part of your game systems

Design Philosophy

TerraForge 2 prioritizes simplicity over complexity. Unlike node-based terrain systems that overwhelm with endless options, it provides a non-node interface focused on essential controls that produce professional results. The emphasis is on intuitive parameter adjustment and direct visual feedback.

  • Non-node-based interface for straightforward workflows
  • Focus on essential controls rather than overwhelming options
  • Seamless editor integration
  • Professional results without steep learning curves

Community & Documentation

Comprehensive documentation, tutorial videos, and an active Discord community provide support and inspiration for your terrain generation projects.
